Mississippi River at Meeman Shelby Forest

Recently my family and I went down to the Meeman Shelby State Forest outside of Memphis, TN.  With a little fog coming off of the parking lot, I walked down the boat ramp to take a couple of shots.  In this first one you can see the marker up above with the fog coming around.

Down on the ramp was this  amazing looking piece of driftwood.

Purchase Fine Art Prints of My Photography

I am in the process of setting up an account at Art.com and ArtistRising.com.  These sites will give me a place to post my photography for sale as Fine Art Prints.  Please be sure to check out my galleries often as I will be uploading new works as I get them ready.

Currently I have posted some photos taken at the Shiloh National Battlefield in Tennessee.

Trip to Shiloh National Battlefield

Earlier in October we decided to take our son to the Shiloh National Battlefield in Tennessee for a home-school field trip.    It has been about 15 years since I had last visited Shiloh during Boy Scouts.  This year represents 150 years since the start of the Civil War.  The battle of Shiloh took place over two days in April of 1862 at Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee river.

We purchased the Audio-Auto Tour which takes you through the battle/sites in chronological order. It was a great chance to learn more about the battle and people who were involved.

Due to the rain I was not able to take many pictures in the early part of the day.  This park is also home to the Shiloh National Cemetery, where over 3500 Union dead were re-buried after the war.

Please be sure to check out the full gallery here, and tell me what you think in the comments below.

Updating my Portfolio

After losing my HDD recently I have been dreading the rework of most of my images from the last several years.  Luckily I did not lose the actual image files, just my edits and creative changes.  Looking on the bright side though, this will allow me to update my portfolio and try out some new editing techniques that I did not have back then.

My first album to be reworked is one of my favorites of course.  It includes my Abandon properties.  Properties that are Abandon or at least appear that way have always intrigued me.   Something about them, makes me wonder what they were like in their hay-day.  What people thought when they were first completed, or used regularly.  I also like to see how nature has started to re-claim them.  Another reason I like to shoot these properties is for a record of what was once there.   Many of these properties should and will be torn down to make room for something new.

One major problem with abandon properties, is they tend to become damaged by more than just nature.  This vandalism can add an artistic value, but it does show a major disrespect for personal property.  When shooting these types of properties, I will make every attempt to get permission from the rightful owners.  If that is not possible, then I will shoot what is visible without trespassing.

To see the full album click here. I hope you enjoy, and if you know of any Abandon properties that I can shoot, please let me know.
